1. Identify the documented termination construction
Soft termination identifies a documented construction attribute, so it needs a product reference of its own. A line containing capacitance, case size and nominal voltage can leave that attribute unresolved. Preserve the exact series and full available identifier before assigning the description to released MLCCs. Similar electrical catalogue fields do not themselves supply the missing termination evidence for another variant.
Murata's GRJ product overview expressly describes capacitors with soft termination. Its feature text goes beyond a category label by explaining the role of resin external electrodes. Keep that explanation attached to GRJ, rather than presenting it as the construction of every ceramic capacitor. The overview is an example of applicable manufacturer terminology, not identification of the contents of an unnamed reel or container.
Where an internal list simply says flexible capacitor or soft termination, retain the original wording and the document that supports its interpretation. Determine whether the note concerns the component construction, an attachment method or something about its packing. If the relationship to the exact item is unclear, state that identification gap instead of treating a familiar phrase as a confirmed product option.
2. Explain stress relief within the stated limit
Murata explains that the resin in the external electrodes releases stress and suppresses ceramic-element cracking caused by board deflection. This is the qualitative reason the termination description matters. It addresses a mechanical-stress mechanism associated with the component's construction. It does not describe a current bend event, an inspection result or a measured improvement for the particular surplus material being offered.
Retain the warning beside the feature. The GRJ overview says that excessive stress beyond the applicable specification's board-bending-strength range can still produce cracks. It also notes possible insulation-resistance reduction and a short circuit when cracks exist. Removing that qualification would turn a bounded construction benefit into an unsupported claim that the product cannot crack or that previously handled material is undamaged.
The actual detailed specification is the place for any product-specific bending limit. This guide supplies no number, graph reading, test fixture or layer diagram. If the enquiry requires a guaranteed mechanical limit, leave it for an exact-document review rather than copying an overview illustration. A soft-termination identity can be established at one evidence level while a particular performance requirement remains unanswered.
3. Distinguish soft termination from adhesive attachment
TDK's capacitor FAQ separates two descriptions that can be confused in a short stock note. Its soft-termination explanation refers to a conductive resin layer in the termination construction. Its Conductive Epoxy discussion concerns a termination intended for conductive-epoxy mounting. One term addresses a component feature; the other identifies an attachment-related product description in that manufacturer's explanation.
Keep the manufacturer and purpose attached to each term. The TDK comparison does not assign its termination materials or mounting approach to Murata GRJ. A seller should not combine text from the two manufacturers into an invented construction drawing or assembly recipe. Nor should an adhesive-related description be replaced with soft termination just because both descriptions mention material associated with the component's terminations.
When records use both expressions, preserve them separately and ask which applicable product reference supports each. An unresolved attachment option is a different gap from an unresolved soft-termination identity. This comparison gives no curing conditions, process window or compatibility conclusion. It is intended to keep the technical description meaningful before another reviewer considers the actual released component and its documented variant.
4. Keep construction evidence separate from damage history
The construction document cannot establish whether offered parts were mounted, bent, removed or damaged. Keep known mechanical history and any existing assessment separate from the series description. If only a photograph is available, report the visible condition without turning it into an internal-crack finding. A missing history remains missing even when the exact soft-termination variant is documented.
For an ICULTRA MLCC enquiry, submit the supported termination identity and explain whether any other description refers to attachment or actual handling. Retain the scope of existing damage reports where available. Use the stock-list guide for quantity and release records. This review adds a specific construction distinction; it does not guarantee crack-free material, board reuse, electrical condition or a buyback outcome.
