1. Identify the supported film construction
Film capacitor is a useful starting category, but it does not finish the electrode description. Vishay's introduction explains that film capacitors use electrodes separated by plastic dielectric material, then distinguishes types by the electrode construction. A seller can therefore know that an item belongs to a film-capacitor family while still lacking the narrower information needed to describe its electrodes accurately.
Give the supported construction its own place in the item record. Retain the complete series or product reference that connects the physical material to the manufacturer's terminology. Where the warehouse description says only film, preserve that broad entry until applicable documentation resolves it. Do not select a construction because another capacitor with the same nominal capacitance was used on the former production programme.
A record can legitimately contain different levels of identification. The manufacturer may be known, the full code may be incomplete, and the electrode construction may remain unresolved. Show those limits directly. Combining the material into one metallised-film offer would hide the open construction question even if the container count and the broader capacitor category were already recorded correctly.
2. Retain the electrode-construction distinction
The Vishay introduction describes metallised types using metal deposited on the plastic dielectric. It describes film/foil types using discrete metal foils. That qualitative structural difference is the centre of this classification. Preserve the original construction wording rather than reducing both descriptions to the shared presence of plastic film or expanding one term into the other when preparing a shorter inventory list.
Keep dielectric identity and electrode identity as separate descriptions. A dielectric term concerns the material between the electrodes, while the distinction discussed here concerns the electrodes themselves. A stock note naming a dielectric can help locate product information without completing the electrode field. Read the applicable series statement instead of assuming that one material name establishes all aspects of the capacitor construction.
No internal inspection is needed merely to preserve the documented distinction in an enquiry. Use the available product reference and state where its link to the offered units is uncertain. A case photograph is useful as an identification record, but it does not supply a view of the electrodes. This article does not recommend opening components or infer construction from an unexamined internal drawing.
3. Separate construction from lot performance
Construction and performance are different claims. The structural distinction does not provide a current pulse-current result, breakdown assessment or measurement of the released devices. Where the applicable product document contains additional specifications, retain them with their own conditions and scope. A construction label should not be promoted into evidence that actual stored or previously installed units have demonstrated a particular electrical result.
Avoid a blanket statement that one construction is the better stock category. The available identification text does not decide which product meets another circuit's requirements or whether a mixed group has consistent condition. This guide supplies no current ranking, thickness value, life comparison or self-healing result. Those extensions would change the question from identifying an electrode construction to evaluating particular products or units.
If an existing report accompanies the material, identify the component codes and units it actually covers. Its findings remain a separate record, rather than a way to fill an unknown construction field. Equally, a known construction should not be used to invent a missing report. The recipient needs to see whether each assertion comes from product documentation or evidence about the offered material.
4. Offer construction-identified film groups
Keep metallised-film, film/foil and construction-unresolved lines distinguishable wherever the records support those groups. The useful output is a description that retains the electrode distinction, not a larger total under the most familiar film label. If a prior assembly record applies only to identified component codes, preserve that coverage rather than extending its description across other film capacitors in the same container.
Do not merge this question with the voltage-rating review. An electrode description does not tell the reader whether a separate voltage entry means rated DC, rated AC or category voltage. Both fields may belong on an identified product's record, but resolving one does not resolve the other. The related capacitor-storage guide addresses another axis: actual history and the meaning of operating endurance.
For an ICULTRA film-capacitor enquiry, provide the supported construction term, its exact source reference and any unresolved identification. Use the general stock-list guide for the released quantities and supporting records. Ask which identified groups can be assessed without treating construction as a tested condition, substitution approval or purchase commitment. Acceptance and commercial terms concern the particular material and require separate confirmation.

Vishay’s introduction supports the qualitative electrode distinction. Adjacent thickness and performance discussions are outside this guide; no destructive inspection, pulse result or self-healing assessment of stock is supplied.
